Sexual Harassment

"It's a way to humiliate and punish the person who has less power."

It seems you can't turn on the news these day without hearing about a powerful boss who has

practiced sexual harassment in the workplace for years.  The richer and more powerful the boss is, the

more he gets to act with impunity with the biggest consequence being having to shell out some money

to the victims.  This usually doesn't stop the bad behavior because these bosses are wealthy so the

money is hardly a dent in their deep pockets. The victims may continue to work under these

deplorable conditions or they may be fired.  We have read how much these bosses will find ways to

punish their accusers.  After all, they don't want their depraved behavior to be revealed.  Also, these

workplace sex predators do become exceptionally vengeful when their targets don't allow them to have

their way with them. However, don't think for a minute that workplace sexual harassment only

happens in companies with multi-million dollar profits.  It happens on a smaller scale in workplaces

with smaller profit or no profit margins.

When the lecherous boss isn't as rich and powerful like the ones we read about in the news, he tries

to be more subtle.  He can't afford a big lawsuit against him and he has less options if he loses his job

due to sexual harassment accusations.  He may restrict his harassment to just leering at his target.  This

doesn't mean that the recipient of his unwanted stares won't feel humiliated or feel his ire.  His

frustration with not being able to take his harassment further could cause him to find faults with the

worker or even make up lies about this particular worker.  The boss is now asserting his power because

he can't get what he wants. Needless to say, the worker becomes a victim who suffers the consequences

of workplace sexual harassment.  One of the worst things about this is that there's no end in sight as we

continue to hear or read about varying degrees of sexual harassment on the job.  Some of us may be

unfortunate enough to be a victim.  This makes it crystal clear that some people with money and power

are unashamed about showing how despicable they truly are in our society.
